Rain expected until Saturday
Forecasters are expecting heavy rains and thunderstorms to persist until Saturday, adding to flooding problems plaguing the Rio Grande Valley after Hurricane Dolly.
Hurricane Dolly dumped up to twelve inches of water in some areas of the Valley. Most cities took in more than five inches of water in the last 24 hours, easily more than a quarter of the region's annual precipitation in less than a day.
The storm has moved into Jim Webb County and eastern Starr County, but the storm is breaking down.
San Manuel, in northern Hidalgo County, was dumped with more than 12 inches of water between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 p.m. Thursday.
"Weather wise, we are expecting breezy weather wit showers and thunderstorms between McAllen and Brownsville," said Nezette Rydell, chief meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Brownsville.
By Saturday, most of the current systems should have moved through the area or dissipated, she said.
Officials across the Rio Grande Valley are expecting cleanup to take anywhere between two days and two weeks.
Here are rainfall totals for some cities across the Rio Grande Valley.
San Manuel: 12 inches.
Mercedes 6.75 inches
Harlingen 5.77
Falfurrias 6.9
Brownsville 5.39
