McALLEN — The Rio Grande Valley Builders Association will show off new homes for sale this weekend at its 2009 "Parade of Homes."

Organizers say they can also show some first-time home-buyers how they can qualify for an $8,000 tax credit as part of the federal economic stimulus package.

Bank officials will be on hand at some of the homes to explain the tax credits. The association will also have brochures available detailing the terms of the credits.

Potential home-buyers can visit 17 homes in 15 different subdivisions in the Mission, McAllen, Edinburg, San Juan and Alamo areas, said Marcy Alamia, executive vice president of the association.

Homes will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and tours will be self-guided. The event will be held Saturday and Sunday, as well as May 2 and May 3.

Information on the homes, as well as maps, is available at the association's Web site, www.rgvba.org.

Fifty area builders are members of the association. For more information, call (956) 686-2932 or (956) 971-9700.
