Fugitive turns himself in at Hidalgo bridge
HIDALGO -- A man wanted by the U.S. Marshal's Service on an escape charge turned himself in to authorities this week, according to a news release issued Wednesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Gabriel Lopez, a U.S. citizen living in Reynosa, walked up to the pedestrian lane at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge Tuesday and told officers that he was a fugitive and that he wished to surrender.
The man was traveling north toward the United States at the bridge.
Officers verified that Lopez was wanted for not reporting to a designated halfway house to complete a drug-related sentence.
Lopez was transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshal's Service.
He remains incarcerated.
