DONNA - A single-car crash Saturday afternoon killed a Weslaco 17-year-old.

Jorge Luis Vidales died after the Pontiac Grand Am in which he was riding rolled over on Victoria Road just north of Expressway 83, said Trooper Johnny Hernandez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Vidales was riding in the back seat and was not wearing a safety belt, Hernandez said. The force of the crash partially ejected the teen from the vehicle.

The car's 17-year-old driver, whose name authorities did not release, was transported to McAllen Medical Center, Hernandez said. The teen suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and likely will be transported to San Antonio for treatment of two broken legs. A 14-year-old front-seat passenger suffered minor injuries and was the only one in the car wearing a safety belt.

The crash remains under investigation and troopers are still trying to determine why the driver lost control of the car, Hernandez said.
