Troopers continue fatal hit-and-run investigation

LOPEZVILLE -- A 55-year-old man died last week after he was struck by an unknown motorist during the early morning hours of New Year's Day.
Jose Luis Garcia was walking alongside the road at the intersection of Minnesota Road and Rodriguez Street when he was struck by a passing vehicle, said Trooper Johnny Hernandez of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities discovered Garcia lying alongside the road January 1 about 3 a.m., he said.
Emergency crews rushed Garcia to McAllen Medical Center, where he died from his injuries on January 6.
Hernandez said investigators are asking for the public's help to try and learn what type of vehicle struck Garcia. Anyone with information is urged to call the DPS McAllen office at (956) 984-5621.
