EDINBURG — A man's body was found Friday afternoon at a welding shop near a busy intersection on the city's north side.

The man, believed to be in his late 40s, was found at 902 E. Monte Cristo Road, just west of Expressway 83, inside an office at Cactus Iron Works.

He appears to have sustained a gunshot wound to the head, Edinburg police Chief Quirino Muñoz said.

An employee at the shop found the body about 1:45 p.m.

Investigators remained tight-lipped as they carefully examined a blue, double-cab Ford F-250 parked outside the business. Public records indicate the vehicle is registered to Edinburg resident Antonio Garcia Jr.

An autopsy of the body has been requested to determine the cause and manner of death. Investigators are treating the case as a homicide, but few details were available as of Friday evening.

"Hopefully as we investigate, we'll know more," Muñoz said in a phone interview. "Right now it's early."
