Sharyland ISD Student Wins Powerlifting State Championship

You Did It

After competing in the State Powerlifting Championships on Friday March, 19th, Sharyland High School junior Brianna Villarreal accomplished a tremendous victory. During her competition in the 148 lbs Division she executed a lift of 350 squat, 150 bench, and 360 dead lift, a total of 790 lbs and a personal best.

“It was a relief, a weight off my shoulders, to finally know that I had done it, and the victory was my own,” said Brianna.

Her training and preparation had a great part in her success. Because powerlifting is a sport about strength, not speed, it requires discipline and she proves to have this quality.

“Brianna’s work ethic is second to none and her commitment and dedication are probably her biggest strengths,” said Coach Ricardo Iruegas.

As she prepares for the National Championship in Ohio on May 23, she trains her body and mind for this intense competition. She will be facing the best lifters in the country but she can be confident in the fact that she is definitely the best in Texas.
