Reggaeton megastar Pitbull to unleash new hits on Valley

The Monitor

Less than a week after performing on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, rapper Pitbull will bring his reggaeton-style sounds to the Mercedes Livestock Showgrounds as part of Latino Festival 2009.

But a lot has changed for the rapper since his last visit to the Valley.

In 2004, shortly before releasing his disc M.I.A.M.I., he performed at La Villa Real, playing second fiddle to rapper Juvenile.

He’s not a supporting act anymore. He’s a headliner.

The five years since his freshman performance in the Valley have been trying for the Miami rapper – he was arrested for and later acquitted of drunk driving and he caught flak for punching an audience member at a concert in May. But it hasn’t been all bad, either.

He’s solidified his name as an artist and producer in the industry, having worked recently with T-Pain, Pharrell Williams and the Backstreet Boys.

His success even earned him a key to the city of Miami earlier this month.

The “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" singer will be joined on stage by DJ Flex, Alacranes Musical, and El Compa Chuy.
