Wildfire potential prompts red flag warning across RGV
Strong winds and dry conditions boost the chances for wildfires to break out across the Rio Grande Valley today.
A red flag warning takes effect at 9 a.m. Tuesday and will last until 6 p.m. for all of deep South Texas.
A strong cold front will bring a surge of drier air into the area, the National Weather Service reports. Relative humidity levels will drop to between 15 to 25 percent and winds are expected to gust from the north to as strong as 40 mph.
Outdoor burning is not advised during red flag warnings, and care is advised while performing tasks outside that could cause fires, such as welding or driving through tall grass.
