LA REFORMA -- Firefighters are still investigating a blaze that they battled throughout the weekend.

The fire started about five miles west of Farm-to-Market Road 681 off of Farm-to-Market Road 1017, near the border of Hidalgo and Starr counties, Saturday afternoon, said Domingo Hinojosa Jr., Linn-San Manuel fire chief.

Firefighters from his department, along with those from the Edinburg and San Isidro departments, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Texas Forestry Service battled the flames throughout the night. That fire seared about 500 acres, Hinojosa said.

The fire rekindled Sunday as temperatures rose and strong winds pushed flames to parched brush, burning an additional 150 or so acres, Hinojosa said.

As of Sunday afternoon, firefighters had about 90 percent of the fire contained, the chief said.
