Evanescence fan talks to The Monitor

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Interview conducted by Monitor staff writer Paige Deiner.

Elizabeth Patterson, a McAllen resident, is long-time fan of Evanescence. She spoke to The Monitor recently about why she likes the band so much.

1. I hear you're a really big Evanescence fan. Is your room full of Evanescence memorabilia?

I actually do have a lot of self made posters on my walls they take up about more than half of my room(I'll even send you pictures). I would print them out in my computer classes and come home after school and put them together. I have 4 shirts that I also made myself and all my friends ask me to make one for them. I have only made one that wasn't for me and that was for my friend Melissa's birthday.

2. Why do you like the band so much?

Their music is real and it's straight from the heart of talented writers and musicians. They speak from the reality of what life can put you through and I have heard songs that explain situations that I myself have been found in and am able to relate too. Evanescence's sound can be compared to many great bands but I don't believe that Evanescence is like anything out there. Their sound is nothing shorter of unique and one of a kind.

3. Evanescence has had a lot of line-up changes recently, how do think that's effected their music?

I really don't think that the lines up changes have effected the band negatively if anything it helped the band expand and change their attitude and ideas on and off stage.I am a strong believer that change can be good and I think for the sanity and over all well being of this band and its members has helped them be a lot more fun and spontaneous.

4. Amy Lee, Evanescence singer, recently got married. How do you feel about that?

When I first found out I was shocked and happy.I have seen Amy in past relationships that didn't go so well, I was just pleased to find out she is married to and man she loves and will be happy with. Seeing her in interviews talking about her and Josh you can see and feeling the excitement and happiness in her voice and I think it's the cutest thing ever.

5. Have you ever been to an Evanescence concert? What was it like?

I have actually seen them twice, my first time was in Corpus Christi on August 8 2004.It was amazing and kinda overwhelming at the same time being that it was my first concert and Evanescence is my favorite band none the less. For a first it was the best and most unforgettable. I just recently saw them in Selma,TX on August 16 with the Family Values Tour. All I can say was that I lost my voice from screaming so loud and my body was sore for 2 days from rocking out, the entire show was AMAZING, Evanescence did and awesome remake of The Doors"People Are Strange".

6. What do you think people can expect from the upcoming Evanescence concert? Will you be there?

I think people can expect good music and a good atmosphere all around I have never been disappointed at an Evanescence concert and I don't think I ever will. I will be there and I can't wait for Halloween night I got my ticket a week after they went on sale here and have been counting down the days ever since. Each member of the band give it 100% on stage and I can't wait to see them.
