Woman killed during early morning bike ride

The Brownsville Herald

A woman is dead after a driver hit her and her daughter-in-law early Thursday morning and drove off, police said.

Carmen Quezada Gonzalez was riding her bicycle at approximately 2:20 a.m. on W. Elizabeth Street with her daughter-in-law Tara Amara Gonzalez, 23, when a car likely struck them both from behind, knocking the two women off of their bikes and onto the pavement in front of Emilia's Restaurant, police spokesman Jimmy Manrrique said.

Tara sustained minimal injuries, but Carmen died quickly after being transported to the Valley Baptist Medical Center, police said.

Thursday was the fifth day in a row the two women had taken early morning bike rides for fitness, according to police.
