Hidalgo County calling for 3 to 7 day recovery

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Hidalgo County officials are asking for patience from local residents who are flooded and without power, saying it may take three to seven days for the Valley to recover.

Power is out through most of the Valley and many cities are having troubles with sewage systems.

"Be patient, this will be a three day to a week recovery operation," said Hidalgo County spokeswoman Cari Lambrecht.

At 9 a.m., about 60 percent of Hidalgo County is without power, compared to 90 percent in Cameron County and 97 percent in Willacy County.

Officials are urging people to stay off the roads.

"We don't want to have to deal with stranded vehicles," Lambrecht said.
