McAllen native's Super Bowl ad scored fan favorite, $1,000,000
McHi graduate Jalisco Fraire will receive a share of the $1,000,000 prize for "Sling Baby" winning an advertising contest featuring Doritos products.
The commercial, featuring sling-shot baby snatching a bag of Doritos out of an older brother's hands, competed against all of the Super Bowl ads for the top spot on the Super Bowl "Ad Meter."
Last fall, Doritos launched a commercial contest to find Super Bowl-worthy spots. The five finalists' 30-second ads were uploaded to Doritos' website and now it's up to the public to vote for their favorites.
Fraire worked as the production designer on the set for the commercial "Sling Baby."
"I read the script that the director came up with and helped with the visual style (of the commercial)," Fraire, 30, said.
All of the details of the set design were hammered out by Fraire, such as having to assess whether the wheelchair would be manual or electric, and he had to modify the baby swing to make it into a slingshot, he said.
Winning the grand prize is a feather in Fraire's cap.
"It'd be nice to say that you worked on a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl," he said. "And financially, it'd be a big benefit, too."
Fraire would like to use the extra money to continue pursuing his career in fashion photography.
