If you or anyone you know have a car, truck or any type of vehicle sitting around and you would like to get rid of it (running or not, damaged but tow-able), donate it to a worthy cause. The vehicles must have some kind of title. Vehicles will be run through auction and all proceeds will go to the Flame of Truth Ministry. We will provide a tax deductible receipt for your donation. DONNA — The Mission Possible Youth Center of the Lighthouse Church is reaching out to the youth in surrounding colonias. In order to keep young people out of trouble, there is a soccer program started. There will be practice on Fridays and games on Saturdays. The teams will be playing in other church and/or community teams. Donations of soccer equipment, shoes, shirts, shorts and referee fees are needed. HIDALGO — Joel and Victoria Osteen, pastors of the largest church in America, will hold two worship events at the Dodge Arena on Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. “A Night of Hope” with Joel and Victoria Osteen is an outreach of Joel Osteen Ministries and is an exciting time of praise and worship where attendees will hear an inspirational message from Joel and Victoria along with electrifying music of Dove Award winning, Cindy Cruse Ratcliff, Steve Crawford and the Lakewood Band and Ensemble. MCALLEN— First Christian Church hosts a movie night every first Wednesday of each month. Movie nights are open to the public and free of charge. Popcorn and refreshments are served during the showing of the movie.
MCALLEN— Magic Valley Chorus of Sweet Adeline’s Int. meets every Monday at 7 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 12th St. and Fern. All ladies who like to sing are welcome and for more information, call Pat Craig at (956) 519-2446.
MCALLEN — Our Savior Lutheran Church of McAllen will sponsor its 3rd annual Summer Music & Activities for Kids from Aug. 3 - 14 from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday. This year’s musical is “Cram ‘n Jam at Promise University” and will explore God’s promises to Paul, Martin Luther, Pocahontas, the Wesleys, Harriet Tubman and missionary Gladys Aylward. If you are in grades 1 thru 8 and like to pretend, you can come on a 2-week journey to Promise University. The $50 registration fee will cover the cost of the camp as well as activities including bowling, ice skating, swimming and a Mr. Gatti’s party. Free lunches will be provided prior to the start of the activities each day, courtesy of the McAllen I.S.D. MCALLEN — The Sacred Heart Church Altar Society is sponsoring its annual rummage sale on Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, located at 306 S. 15th St. Organizers are looking for people interested in renting tables to sell their own items. Tables are being rented for $15 each. There are a limited number of tables, so reserve yours quickly. Deadline for obtaining tables is July 30. MCALLEN — “Truth” is the Sermon Topic this Sunday at McAllen’s 10:30 a.m. Christian Science Church and Sunday School. The sermon key-note is from Psalms, “teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth;” Christian Scientists endeavor to follow Christ Jesus commands to his followers, he said, “heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils; freely ye have received, freely give.” Also, Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Our 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening meetings include testimonies of healing and remarks by members and visitors. MISSION — Trinity Lutheran Church is a small ELCA congregation whose numbers swell during the Winter Texan season. We are located at 3308 N. Conway, and like most Valley churches, our year round members are few in number. We would love to share our space with another church or organization that is also willing to share our expenses.
