LA JOYA — Esmeralda Flores Anany was held by La Joya police Monday for bouncing a check more than a year ago.
The La Joya schools parental involvement strategist is state Rep. Ismael “Kino” Flores’ sister. She was released after paying the check amount plus a fine.
Hidalgo County District Attorney Rene Guerra said Monday that he did not know the amount of the check but confirmed his office filed the November arrest warrant to compel Anany to reimburse the retailer that had accepted the “hot” check.
The DA’s office sends out letters to people who bounce checks, and may file arrest warrants if those notices are ignored.
