Authorities: Homemade spikes used to deter Border Patrol
U.S. Border Patrol reported a marijuana seizure after a chase Thursday near Sullivan City. The chase began when agents working near Sullivan City saw a suspicious pickup driving north from the river. When the pickup’s driver spotted the Border Patrol vehicle, he turned around and headed south toward the river. In an alleged attempt to prevent their narcotics load from being confiscated, someone inside the pickup threw homemade spikes onto the road. When the truck reached the riverbank, the driver and passenger jumped out and swam to Mexico. Two of the tires on the Border Patrol vehicle were flattened; however the agents managed to seize almost 800 pounds of marijuana, authorities said.
