Multiple car crashes on Expressway 83
Comments 0 | Recommend 0McALLEN -- Traffic backups along Expressway 83 have cleared after a series of car crashes this morning.
Three car crashes occurred around the Bicentennial Boulevard overpass within a 28 minute span starting at 7:20 a.m., according to the McAllen Police Department.
McAllen Police spokesman Sgt. Joel Morales said the accidents are believed to be unrelated.
At 7:18 a.m. a McAllen police officer had attempted to pull over a vehicle believed to contain a suspect wanted by the Mission Police Department. The officer looked into the interior of the vehicle and after noting the driver did not match the description of the suspect decided not to pull the vehicle over, Morales said.
Radio traffic earlier this morning indicated the attempted traffic stop was connected to the car crashes, which occurred only minutes later.
Morales denied any connection and said the accidents are under investigation. The cars involved in the accidents have been cleared from the expressway.
