UTPA and STC to cancel classes Wednesday and Thursday
Comments 0 | Recommend 0McALLEN -- South Texas College and the University of Texas-Pan American have cancelled all classes and activities in preparation for Tropical Storm Dolly.
Both institutions will shut down their operations at 5 p.m. UTPA plans to resume evening classes at 4 p.m. Thursday and STC will reopen Friday morning.
STC plans to take down its online services, including online courses, late tonight, said Helen Escobar, the college's spokeswoman.
The college will have campus status and other important information available on its Web site for students to access, Escobar said.
Classes are expected to resume at 8 a.m. Friday.
Students can call the college's hotline (956) 872-8311 or 1-800-742-7822 for updates or visit the Web site at www.southtexascollege.edu.
STC also asks students to update their emergency contact information so they can receive information through its mass notification system. To update information, log onto https://alert.southtexascollege.edu/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fDefault.aspx.
No one will be allowed on UTPA's campus while it is closed on Wednesday and Thursday. Only personnel authorized by their respective division vice president will be permitted on the grounds, according to the university.
The university is allowing employees to leave before 5 p.m. to prepare for the storm if they need to, according to the university.
