Florida fugitive arrested at Hidalgo bridge

HIDALGO -- Customs officers at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge arrested a Florida woman wanted on felony state charges.

Kimberly Ilene Mendez, 37, a U.S. citizen from Lehigh Acres, Fla. attempted to head north into the United States at the bridge on Thursday. Officers conducted a database check on the woman and discovered she was wanted on charges that include racketeering, fraud, grand theft, false representation and money laundering. 

After her arrest, Mendez was transferred to the Hidalgo Police Department. She remains incarcerated pending her extradition to Florida.
