Short Synopsis:
A little boy is forced to live with his grandmother after his parents die in a fiery crash. Sad story? Hardly. The grandmother turns out to be a witch hunter. Together the little boy (whose name is never given in the book) and his grandmother enter an adventure as they battle the Grand Witch herself. It is a battle of wits, especially after our young hero is turned into a mouse with the secret witch Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker.
Why You Are Recommending It:
The Book Club at our school had a blast reading it. Typical of Dahl’s writings, it is rich with delicious text. It is meant to be read aloud.
Our Book Club members, affectionately known as Flippers, took pictures dressed as witches, acted out scenes and generally loved that the hero was a child just like themselves. Highly recommended.
