Autopsy: Man's death a homicide

ROMA - Preliminary autopsy results indicate someone killed a man found dead along the banks of the Rio Grande over the weekend, police said Wednesday.

Officers discovered the man's body Sunday, behind the De La Cruz subdivision, near the intersection of Expressway 83 and South Olvera Avenue. The man, believed to be in his 50s, was in an advanced state of decomposition, Roma police Lt. Rafael Aguirre said.

During Tuesday's autopsy, investigators discovered the man had sustained several broken bones and gunshot wounds some time before his death. But officers refused to release the exact nature of his injuries citing the ongoing investigation.

The dead man is described as a 5-foot-5, bald and Hispanic, with a heart-shaped tattoo on his left bicep. He was wearing a black or dark-colored T-shirt with a "Tom Taylor" logo and brown cargo shorts, police said.

He may also have had heart bypass surgery.

Authorities urge anyone with information on this case to contact the Roma Police Department at (956) 849-2231.
