McALLEN — Several area residents have reported people going door-to-door purportedly selling newspaper subscriptions for $20 — cash only.

Several people have called The Monitor saying they were asked to purchase five-month subscriptions to The Monitor and the San Antonio Express-News. The newspapers never arrived.

The Monitor has not authorized any of these transactions. Anyone who believes they may have fallen victim to this scam is urged to contact their local police and file a report.

In general, if anyone encounters a person selling subscriptions to The Monitor, that person will have a letter on Monitor letterhead, signed by a company representative, with a phone number that potential customers may call to validate the identity of the salesperson.

If you have any questions or would like to subscribe to The Monitor, please call customer service at (956) 683-4300 or (800) 366-4343.
